ARIZONA STATE CHEERLEADING/POM TOURNAMENT
Changes to State for 2008

State 2008™

Changes/Additions and Clarifications

After 22 years we are still striving for perfection.  Here are the following highlights and changes for State 2008:

q  In order for your registration to be processed, the Registration Form must be accompanied by payment.  Either Hard Copy Purchase Orders (we will not accept purchase order numbers) or checks/money orders made out to State Tournament will be accepted.

q  There are TWO registration forms this year – one for Junior High and High Schools and one for All Stars and Dance Teams.  Please visit our website if you need either of the registration forms.

q  It is the coaches' responsibility to check all confirmation letters sent!  If you determine there is a mistake or change you need to make – please call, fax or email us those changes.  No changes in numbers or changes in division will be made after February 15th – NO EXCEPTIONS!!

q  We will notify all teams in the final confirmation packet (to be mailed the week of February 18th to all Head Coaches) if they will compete in the large or small division. If there are 8 or less teams entered there will only be one division for that category (four for all stars).

q  We encourage all coaches to send in a team photo for our program.  There is no cost to be included!  Please either send in a team photo or email one in .jpg format to gene@statecheer.com.  Pictures will not be returned.

q  Junior High Teams – we are proud to offer a chance for all teams to compete by hosting a Performance Cheer category.  This is an excellent way for teams who wish to compete to do so in a  less intimidating format.  Performance cheer is a shorter time (only 1 ½ minutes) with no music.  Teams can choose to stunt or tumble or not!

q  Dance Teams – High School Dance Teams (dance classes within the school) and Dance Studios are eligible to compete for a State Title during the All Star Division (Session 2).  We are excited to offer this opportunity and look forward to their exciting routines!

q  High School Teams – there is to be no Cross Competing.  A member may compete in either Junior Varsity divisions or Varsity divisions – they may not compete in both.  Seniors must compete in Varsity Divisions.

q  Coaches MUST be present at the Participant Entrance for their team to enter!  Once you register your team, you must be present at the Participant Entrance for your team to be admitted!  You may only enter during the registration times listed – NO EXCEPTIONS.  The times are listed so please make your travel plans accordingly.

q  Registration – Coaches must register their squads for each category they have registered in.  Example – if you registered for 1,2,3A Varsity Show Cheer and Varsity Jazz, the coach must register their team during the registration time for 1,2,3A time – Session 3 (6:45am to 7:15am) and again during 5A time – Session 5 (3:45pm – 4:45pm).  They must also attend both coaches meeting for additions, deletions and changes.

q  Complimentary Passes – We will give four (4) complimentary coach’s passes per school or gym this year.  Coaches must be listed on the registration form to receive a coaches’ pass!  Please email or call us with any coach’s changes by February 15th, 2008.  If you need more than four passes, they must be paid for as listed on registration form. Remember that only FOUR coaches will be allowed on the competition floor during your teams’ performance!

q  Spotters – Upon signing in for warm ups, you will be assigned a spotter who will travel through your warm ups with your team.  He will then be your main spotter during your performance.

q  Penalties – We have added specific penalty deductions for the judges to use when judging your routine – listed on page 10 .  By writing them out, you as a coach know in advance the scoring system that will be used during competition.  This will also keep our judges consistent in their judging.  Please remember that these are only to be used as a guideline and exceptions are possible.

q  Two Scholarship opportunities are available this year.  We are proud to host the Johnna Leone Cheer Scholarship which will award to high school seniors and this year our Sportsmanship Trophy Award Winners will be furthered honored by a donation made to their team.  Please read our Scholarship page!

q  Club State – We introduced it at State 2005 and we all had a blast.  All teams are encouraged to come down onto the competition floor before awards to dance and have fun!

Good Luck and see you on February 29 and March 1st, 2008!
